Group Academics

Grades 3-8

*with grade 8+ for learners on a diploma track but not ready for high school

What is Group Academics?

Wildflower Learning Center Group Academics is a group learning program for children who are homeschooled. We accept children with disabilities, neurodiverse learners and neurotypical peers.  Group Academics addresses academic skills in all core areas as well as executive functioning, language and social skills. Classes are taught by special education teachers and speech and language pathologists with occupational therapy support.

Communication is Our Foundation

We believe that communication amongst a child’s team (parents, caregivers, therapists, tutors etc) is critical to their success. All groups and classes incorporate parent training and support as well as consistent communication on topics learned and strategies taught. Our Group Academics program utilizes frequent teacher team meetings and consistent communication.

Homerooms

Learners are grouped into one of 3 homerooms:

3-4th grade, 5-6th grade, 7-8+ grade.  Homeroom leads are SLP's or OT's.  Educators and SLP's lead learning groups for blocks of learning in math, ELA, science, social studies and mindfulness (focused lessons in self regulation, emotional intelligence and pragmatic language/social skills).

Neuroaffirming Approach

We believe in building functional communication, autonomy and independence. Our goal is to teach our learners to know themselves and their needs and to become their own advocates.

Future Builders

Future Builders provides academics and life skills in a group learning environment.  It is a great transition from Group Academics for learners at many levels.  Future Builders provides support in functional or modified academics and life skills and uses the same amazing team of OT's, SLP's and educators as our other programs.  Future Builders will provide programming for learners in grades 7-12 in two pathways beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year, three days a week.

- LOTUS: for learners working toward an occupational diploma or certificate (learner/staff ratio 2:1)

- Academy: for learners working toward a special education diploma (learner/staff ration 3-4:1)
